Is this for me?
You might consider an evaluation if you
- Have always felt different from others, or exhausted by social situations
- Find that sounds, lights, textures, or crowds feel overwhelming
- Rely on routines and feel thrown off by unexpected changes
- Have deep, focused interests
- Spend a lot of energy masking or copying others to fit in
- Experience burnout, shutdowns, or meltdowns
- Were diagnosed with anxiety, depression, or ADHD, but something still does not fit
Autism often goes unrecognized in girls, women, and people who mask well. Learn more about women’s mental health and ADHD, which often co-occurs with autism.

- Screening for co-occurring conditionsADHD, anxiety, depression, and sleep problems are common, and they affect what will help.

- Written summaryA summary of findings and recommendations you can share with your care team, school, or workplace.
Medication management
Medication support for autistic teens and adults
There is no medication for autism itself. The goal of medication is to ease the challenges that make daily life harder, while respecting who you are.
- Anxiety and depression, which are common in autistic people
- ADHD, which often co-occurs with autism
- Sleep problems
- Irritability or severe distress: risperidone and aripiprazole are FDA-approved for irritability associated with autism in children and teens, and they require careful monitoring
Autistic people can be more sensitive to medication side effects, so we start low, go slow, and check in often. Some medications need lab monitoring, which we explain up front.

FAQ
Questions about autism care
Can adults be evaluated for autism?
Yes. Many adults, especially women and people who learned to mask, are first recognized as autistic in their 20s, 30s, or later. An evaluation looks at your development across your life, not just how things look today.
Can an autism evaluation be done by telehealth?
For many teens and adults, yes. The evaluation relies on a detailed developmental history, validated questionnaires, and clinical interviews, which work well by video. If your situation calls for additional in-person or specialized testing, we will tell you and help with a referral.
Is there a medication for autism?
No medication treats autism itself, and autism is not something that needs to be cured. Medication can help with co-occurring conditions such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, sleep problems, or irritability that get in the way of daily life.
Will I get results in writing?
Yes. After the evaluation, we review the results with you and provide a written summary of findings and recommendations.
Do I need an evaluation to qualify for ABA therapy through Apple Health?
Apple Health has specific requirements for evaluations used to authorize ABA therapy. If that is your goal, please call us at (425) 477-9272 before booking so we can confirm the right path for you.
Does insurance cover an autism evaluation?
Many plans cover diagnostic evaluations and medication management. We verify your benefits before your first visit. Self-pay options are also available.
