What Cigna members should know
- Prior authorization: Cigna has stated that routine outpatient mental health care does not require prior authorization.
- Who manages it: Cigna’s behavioral health benefits are run by Evernorth Behavioral Health.
- Your card: many Cigna ID cards list a separate MH/SA (mental health and substance use) phone number next to customer service. Call it to confirm your benefits.
- Video visits: on state-regulated plans, Washington law requires covered telehealth visits to be paid the same as in person.
Washington law requires state-regulated health plans to cover medically necessary mental health care on the same terms as medical care, including deductibles, copays, and out-of-pocket limits, and to pay for telehealth visits the same as in-person visits when the service is covered. Employer self-funded plans follow federal rules instead.
