Anxiety test (GAD-7): free online screening

Medically reviewed by Dr. Iman Yunis, DNP, PMHNP-BC · Last reviewed October 26, 2026

The GAD-7 is a widely used 7-question anxiety screening. It takes about 2 minutes, and your answers are not saved or sent anywhere.

The short answer

The GAD-7 is a 7-question anxiety screening widely used in clinics. Scores range from 0 to 21; scores of 5, 10, and 15 suggest mild, moderate, and severe anxiety symptoms. It is a screening tool, not a diagnosis, so a score of 10 or more is a good reason to talk with a provider.

If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 or call 911 now. This website is not monitored in real time.

About the GAD-7

What your score means

Each answer is scored 0 to 3, for a total of 0 to 21. Scores of 5, 10, and 15 are commonly used as cutoffs for mild, moderate, and severe anxiety symptoms. A score of 10 or higher usually means an evaluation is worthwhile. A screening is not a diagnosis.
