Using insurance

What you will pay with insurance

Most plans cover outpatient psychiatric care. Your cost depends on three things:

  • Copay: a fixed amount per visit, such as $20 or $40
  • Deductible: the amount you pay each year before your plan starts sharing costs
  • Coinsurance: a percentage you pay after meeting your deductible, such as 20%

Medicare: after the Part B deductible, you typically pay 20% of the Medicare-approved amount, and a supplemental plan may cover some or all of that. Medicare details

Apple Health (Medicaid): most members have little or no out-of-pocket cost for covered services. Apple Health details

Ways to save

Making care affordable

  • Use your HSA or FSA, which generally covers psychiatric care
  • Ask your plan whether telehealth visits have a lower copay
  • Once your plan is stable, follow-up visits are shorter and less frequent
  • If your medications are expensive, ask about generic options or manufacturer savings programs
